March 2024 was a pivotable month for Sober One Six!! Not only did we branch out to new cities (New York City for a happy hour event and a show in Rochester), we launched our first Queer Speed Dating series!
Halftime Divas Drag Show & Dance Party
Our first event in March was Halftime Divas, our first drag show and dance party in Rochester, New York! It was held at Photo City Music Hall, a live music venue, and we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome of this show. The crowd came from Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse and the energy was insane. It felt like we were at the show for each of the actual divas, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rhianna, Beyonce, and Jennifer Lopez, who all performed at the Super Bowl halftime shows over the years. This event really raised the bar for us! We were glad to have plenty of non-alcoholic options at the bar and to enjoy the night with a great space to dance to DJ Lydvicious’ set!
March Sober Social
Of course, we had our third official Sober Social of the year called “Shamrock Sober Social” at Breezy Burrito Bar in the Elmwood Village. There is always such an emphasis on drinking alcohol during St. Patrick's Day, especially in this city, so we collaborated with Breezy for the second time to offer a space for sober, sober-curious, and sober-supportive people to gather and have a place to go around this holiday! We are so grateful to Breezy for having a fabulous mocktail menu on deck at all times, and for adding a few special mocktails for this event specifically. We had an amazing turnout and a lucky winner won the raffle for merch and a gift card. Sober Socials take place monthly at various locations around town. Hope we will see you at the next one!
Queer Speed Dating: Person <3 Person
Lastly, we held our second Queer Speed Dating event at Jack Rabbit in Buffalo. In February, the event was for Woman Seeking Woman but for March, we changed it up for Person Seeking Person. No matter how you identify, this event was for you. Our guests had nothing but great things to say! Watching strangers meet and form connections of all types was the best part for me! It motivates me to keep producing this series of speed dating events. People are getting over Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Grindr, etc., and want to meet in person and this is a great way to do that. With the ticket, the guests went on ten mini dates with each other and enjoyed food, drinks, and even a couple drag performances to break things up and have even more fun. Follow along for more queer speed dating events of all types to come (such as Men Seeking Men on April 18 and Queer Speed FRIENDING coming soon)!
Can’t wait to see how April turns out and as always, thanks for following along and being a part of this! 🙂
